Un deuil national de trois jours a par ailleurs été décrété à compter de ce jeudi après le drame survenu à l’hôpital de Tivaouane, à une centaine de kilomètres au nord-est de Dakar, où 11 nouveaux-nés sont morts dans un incendie.
Le président sénégalais Macky Sall a limogé son ministre de la Santé Abdoudaye Diouf Sarr jeudi soir 26 mai après la mort de onze bébés à l’hôpital public de Tivaouane mercredi, ont annoncé ses services dans un décret lu à la télévision publique.
Le chef de l’État « a nommé Docteur Marie Khemesse Ngom Ndiaye ministre de la Santé et de l’Action sociale en remplacement de Monsieur Abdoudaye Diouf Sarr », a annoncé la présidence.
Cela suffira-t-il à calmer la colère ambiante ?
Devant l’hôpital de Tivouane, des habitants rassemblés expriment leur désolation ce jeudi. Alors que les parents des victimes sont réunis avec la cellule de crise dépêchée par le ministère de la Santé à l’intérieur de l’hôpital, Mustapha Cissé, lui, attend des explications. Son frère avait déjà perdu sa femme lors l’accouchement, il vient de perdre son bébé de 22 jours. « Il était prématuré, c’est pour ça qu’il devait rester là. On a de l’amertume, un chagrin profond », confie-t-il au micro de notre envoyée spéciale, Charlotte Idrac.
Après la mort de quatre nourrissons à l’hôpital de Linguere en avril 2021, le drame d’Astou Sokhna, décédée en couches à l’hôpital de Louga le mois dernier, il faut que cela s’arrête, soupire Awa Ba : « Ça se répète, et c’est la goutte d’eau. Il faut que les autorités mettent fin à ces drames dans les hôpitaux, qu’ils mettent des moyens, et du matériel pour que cela fonctionne, ça suffit. »
Cette retraitée qui a travaillé 25 ans à la maternité de Tivaouane est fataliste : « je connais bien l’hôpital, le personnel travaille bien, il y a un bon accueil, ce qui s’est passé, c’est la volonté de Dieu. » Mais cette fois, Ahmed Alamine Niane attend des actions fermes du gouvernement : « C’est une situation de désolation, franchement, c’est déplorable. On demande à l’État du Sénégal de situer les responsabilités. »
Dans l’après-midi, le maire de Tivaouane Demba Diop Sy a confirmé le bilan de onze bébés décédés. Aucun n’a survécu. Il parle d’un court-circuit, écarte la « négligence », et appelle à laisser la justice faire son travail.
D’après les premières informations, il paraît qu’il y avait eu un court-circuit dans la salle où les enfants étaient logés. Dans cette salle, il y a des circuits d’oxygène.
