Le président rwandais Paul Kagame a déclaré qu’il était prêt à restituer des millions de dollars au Royaume-Uni si les contestations juridiques d’un accord entre les deux pays continuaient d’empêcher le transfert de migrants vers le Rwanda.

En vertu de cet accord, le gouvernement britannique prévoit d’envoyer des demandeurs d’asile au Rwanda pour que leurs demandes soient traitées dans ce pays.

En novembre, la Cour suprême britannique a jugé que l’ensemble du plan était illégal. Elle a déclaré que les migrants envoyés au Rwanda risquaient d’être renvoyés dans leur pays d’origine contre leur gré.

Lorsque la BBC lui a demandé si son pays était sûr pour les réfugiés, M. Kagame s’est contenté de répondre : “Demandez au Royaume-Uni”.
