Nous sommes Jeudi le 07 octobre 2021: le Parlement européen a adopté une résolutions sur la situation des droits de l’homme au Rwanda. C’est le cas de Paul Rusesabagina. Le texte de condamnation du régime rwandais a été massivement adopté par 660 voix pour, 2 contre et 18 abstentions.
Voici en bref la résolution:
Les députés condamnent fermement l’arrestation, la détention et la condamnation illégales du militant des droits de l’homme Paul Rusesabagina au Rwanda, qui sont contraires au droit international et au droit rwandais.
Le 29 septembre 2021, Paul Rusesabagina, ressortissant belge et résident aux États-Unis, dont l’histoire a été racontée dans le film Hotel Rwanda de 2004, a été condamné à 25 ans d’emprisonnement. Il a été reconnu coupable de neuf chefs d’accusation liés au terrorisme et pénalement responsable des activités attribuées au Mouvement rwandais pour le changement démocratique/Front de libération nationale (MRCD-FLN), coalition de partis politiques d’opposition et son bras armé.
Le Parlement estime que le cas de M. Rusesabagina est l’exemple même des violations des droits de l’homme au Rwanda, les députés appelant à remettre en cause l’équité du verdict et à la libération immédiate de M. Rusesabagina pour des raisons humanitaires.
Les députés invitent le gouvernement rwandais à garantir l’intégrité physique et le bien-être psychologique de M. Rusesabagina et à lui permettre de prendre le traitement dont il a besoin. Le gouvernement rwandais doit respecter le droit du gouvernement belge d’apporter une assistance consulaire à M. Rusesabagina afin de garantir son état de santé et un accès digne de ce nom à la défense.
