Sur un autre compte Facebook vérifié, le président a posté une photo de lui-même assis à côté d’un homme en treillis militaire, avec pour légende “Le calme est revenu en Guinée-Bissau !”.
Que s’est-il passé ?
Des coups de feu ont été signalés autour du palais présidentiel mardi après-midi. Le président et le premier ministre auraient participé à une réunion de cabinet à l’intérieur du bâtiment.
Un témoin en Guinée-Bissau avait déclaré à BBC Focus on Africa que les militaires et les policiers se sont rendus sur les lieux où les hommes armés tiraient, à la suite de quoi un policier a été abattu.
Les écoles et les bureaux ont été fermés, et l’armée a été déployée dans les bâtiments gouvernementaux.
La fusillade entre des assaillants non identifiés et des officiers, alors que des rapports font état d’une tentative de coup d’État, a laissé les gens “très inquiets de la situation qui prévaut”, déclare un journaliste local à la BBC.
“C’était la panique – tout le monde essayait de se réfugier dans un endroit sûr. En 1998, pendant la guerre civile, 2 500 personnes ont été tuées dans des affrontements entre le général [Ansumane] Mané et le président – et les gens ont peur qu’un tel événement se reproduise”, a déclaré Alfred Dabo.
