Maxime Blasco, 34 ans, a été tué au cours d’une opération de reconnaissance et de harcèlement conduite par la force antijihadiste Barkhane dans la région de Gossi, à proximité de la frontière entre le Mali et le Burkina Faso.
Plusieurs fois décoré, le caporal-chef Blasco avait reçu en juin la médaille militaire “pour la valeur exceptionnelle de ses services”. “C’était quelqu’un qui avait un parcours opérationnel exceptionnel”, selon le colonel Pascal Ianni, porte-parole des armées.ADVERTISING

En 2019, il avait sauvé la vie à deux de ses camarades après le crash de leur hélicoptère Gazelle. Grièvement blessé, notamment avec de multiples fractures vertébrales, il avait réussi à les extraire sur une cinquantaine de mètres avant de les installer “de façon un peu artisanale sur les patins” d’un hélicoptère Tigre pour les extraire de la zone de combat, selon l’état-major.
Son décès porte à 52 le nombre de soldats français tués au combat au Sahel depuis 2013. Jeudi, un autre hommage lui sera rendu à Varces (Isère, sud-est) par ses frères d’armes du 7e bataillon de chasseurs alpins.
