It is since a few days that the President of the Republic of Burundi Major General Evariste Ndayishimiye embarked on a campaign which consists in positively selling the cultural heritage of Burundi.
To this end, he has been seen touring the country, visiting mythical/historic places, alongside his family.
It was in the same setting that he took part in this spectacle of drummers, playing the main role himself. How beautiful to see on the stage the First Citizen of Burundi!!!!
As a reminder, in Burundi, drums are part of the national heritage.
According to legend, the first Burundian drum rhythm was played by a snake on a dried bull skin that the first ruler of the kingdom of Burundi received from his aunt’s husband.
The performances of Burundian drummers combine dances, songs and cries.
Whether amateur or professional, the songs of drumming groups praise and recall the history of Burundi as well as the bravery of the rulers of the Kingdom of Burundi.
