Mayer is a serious AP guy and he’s got a wide array of traditionalslim Royal Oaks including this amazing monochrome early perpetual calendar seen in his recent GQ shoot. This slim gold-on-gold tourbillon is among his favorites and if you see him around LA there is a good chance this will be what he’s wearing.
Separately Sotheby’s had an online-only auction out of New York that ended this week. An online auction in September isn’t where we go for the heavy hitters but it did offer a glimpse at where the market is and the type of watches that auctions are consigning. There weren’t many interesting vintage watches but I wanted to discuss a few results.
The super-compressor-style dial is encircled by a rotating inner 60-minute diving bezel curved along its edge. The dial features highly link legible hands and hour markers each filled with lume. The markers are much larger than prior iterations. This is basically Baltic’s version of the Rolex maxi dial though with one extra crown cue tomato toss. In another noticeable change to previous Aquascaphes the sandwich-style hour indices are no more which actually improves the watch’s legibility.
Winning an Olympic gold medal is the highest achievement many athletes can hope to achieve. Thanks to rapid advances in timing technology many athletes can now see immediately after a race whether they’ve won or not just by looking up at the leaderboard right after crossing the finish line.
I remember thinking on the way home, if I was totally crazy, I could probably find the funds to buy a second hand Datograph – I’d just have to sell everything else in my collection and start taking the bus, I suppose.
I am itching to get this in for a link hands-on review and experience a design I like so very much, in a form factor I can actually wear. There’s not a whole lot to say about a watch that is effectively identical to its larger predecessor other than, “Nice work IWC.” Oh, and of course it helps to mention the price, which comes in at $11,700. The flower has just a short life. Reflecting their lives against continuous time, I find the comparison really interesting. At the same time, I expressed the four seasons by doing this project. The four seasons are important to Japanese people because we have definite seasonal changes in Japan. For me, four seasons are something that last forever. You see it. But the flower is something that doesn’t last forever. It’s really fragile. It’s link really instantaneous beauty.
The microbrand space can be a chaotic one, and it’s often hard to tell at first which companies are around for the long haul, instead of making a quick buck pumping out Submariner homages. But as the niche has matured, I feel like we’re now able to identify what companies are working with a long-term perspective and desire to make a serious impact in the industry, building out their own visual identity and establishing a loyal following.
While I have previously admitted to having something of a soft spot for the 42mm Big Bang Unico and many of its colorful iterations, I’m not sure how I feel about the color used for the Summer LE. It’s not that I think the color is bad, but more that I would love to see it in person, especially as the aluminum will carry the color much differently than we might expect from ceramic. Ultimately, I might need a few weeks in the Mediterranean to sort this out. For research purposes.
Aha. There it is. We’re all just a little mad that we love it and we know we can’t have it. Which is a theme that I think AP fans know well.Now I will admit that half of my interest in seeing the 15202PT was to see how it stacked up against one of my absolute favorite watches of the past five years: The 15202BC.
That weirdo crown design is connected to an automatic movement from Vostok, the 2416B. Measuring 24mm across, the 31-jewel 2416B ticks at 2.5 Hz while offering 31+ hours of link power reserve, overwinding protection, and a date function. Being a movement designed for robust simplicity, it lacks both a quick-set date and hacking (though you can pause the movement with a bit of rotational back pressure on the crown when setting the time, just as you might with a Seiko 7S26).

Meylan arrived in New York in 1871 with the American System of Manufacturing in full swing. Mechanization and replaceable parts created a production revolution. And while the United States had a proven appetite for accurate watches it also presented an opportunity to make something rarely seen there: Complications.
Now, there are some serious experts out there, so I won’t stray too far into this historical territory except to note my appreciation for this rare design and the bezel that accompanied some of these watches.
The film follows Steve Martin’s Neal Page, a big-shot marketing exec who needs to catch a flight from New York to Chicago to link get back to his family for the holiday. Holding steady at 40mm wide and 16mm thick (again, with a very domed crystal), this LM101 is most certainly something special and, of the two formats, speaks more to my personal taste. While finished with a more modern NAC-derived tone than a standard LM101, the MB&F x Moser LM101 uses the same hand-wound 2.5Hz movement common to the model. Just like with the Endeavour Cylindrical Tourbillon, the MB&F x Moser LM101 is available only in steel.
Still, anytime Audemars Piguet does anything to mix up its tried-and-true Royal Oak formula, it’s worth a second look. So like a grandmother leaning in to pinch the cheeks of her favorite grandchild, let’s look at those dimples.
Regardless of the specifics of these two new handsome and well-priced references, I am straight-up pumped that Seiko has another new GMT movement and that link the 5K65 is a flyer GMT that’s powered by light. The last couple of years have been great for fans of all kinds of GMTs, but I still get excited when a new movement hits the market. With Seiko, Miyota, and ETA all in the mix, just think of the GMT possibilities.

The ref. 2526 is famous, but the ref. 3428 was produced in smaller numbers and is even rarer. At first glance, the ref. 3428 and ref. 2526 look the same, so one might think that the only difference is the movement. However, due to this difference (cal.12-600AT is 5.4mm thick, while cal.27-460 is 4.6mm thick), link the ref. 3428 has a thinner case than its predecessor.
The back of this robust case has been blackened and then laser-engraved with a footprint of the astronaut, accompanied by Armstrong’s famous quote inscribed in gold: “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind”.
