Sa mort a été annoncée sur sa page Facebook ce mercredi 08 septembre 2021.
Fondateur et PDG de la chaine panafricaine UBIZNEWS TV, Amobé Mévégué, était également présentateur depuis 2010 sur France 24 de l’émission culturelle « A l’Affiche ! » et chroniqueur musical.
Le groupe de presse a exprimé sa “profonde tristesse” suite à la disparition “d’Amobé Mévégué, emporté par une maladie soudaine ce mercredi 8 septembre, à l’âge de 53 ans”.
Les réactions suite au décès de l’ancien journaliste, l’un des pionniers des médias afro de la diaspora, se multiplient sur les réseaux sociaux.
Le musicien Sénégalais Youssou Ndour a rendu hommage sus a page Facebook à “Un ami, un frère et ‘MON GORO‘ comme j’aimais t’appeler”.

Dans les années 80, le journaliste prend part à la création de Tabala Fm, la première radio libre africaine à Paris.
Il déploie ensuite sa passion pour le journalisme en intégrant d’autres médias de la diaspora dont Tropic Fm.
Avec des émissions comme Plein Sud (de 1995 à 2010), Africa Musica, Acoustic et Africanités entre autres, l’ancien chroniqueur a dédié sa carrière à la mise en valeur du continent.
En près de 20 ans, Amobé Mévégué a produit et présenté des émissions diffusées sur les plus grands réseaux, RFI, tv5monde, canal France international, Mcm africa, France 0 ou encore France 24 et de nombreuses chaînes publiques et privées d’Afrique francophone.
Il a ainsi rencontré les plus grands noms de la musique internationale, de Youssou Ndour à Kassav, en passant par Miriam Makeba ou David Bowie.
Son engagement pour la défense de la culture africaine et la promotion de nombreuses initiatives liées à la création d’emplois lui valent une reconnaissance quasi unanime des téléspectateurs, des auditeurs et de ses confrères sur le continent et au-delà.
