Une attaque a visé, dans la nuit du samedi 18 au dimanche 19 septembre, l’aéroport de Bujumbura au Burundi d’où devait décoller le président Évariste Ndayishimiye pour New York. PUBLICITÉ
L’attaque a eu lieu cette nuit vers 23h, une attaque revendiquée peu après par le groupe rebelle burundais de la Résistance pour un État de droit au Burundi (RED-Tabara).
Cette attaque spectaculaire n’a pratiquement pas fait de dégâts. Au moins trois obus de mortier 82 mm ont touché l’aéroport international Melchior-Ndadaye au nord-ouest de Bujumbura. Des tirs qui ont été entendu jusque dans le centre-ville situé à une dizaine de kilomètres de là.

Un haut gradé de l’armée estime que c’est une opération de communication de la part des rebelles de RED-Tabara, accusés d’être à l’origine de nombreuses attaques et embuscades mortelles depuis la crise de 2015.
