Une délégation de l’Union africaine était à Bamako ce mardi 25 janvier. Le président de la Commission de l’UA, Moussa Faki Mahamat, a rencontré les autorités de transition. Il s’est notamment entretenu avec le ministre des Affaires étrangères Abdoulaye Diop, le Premier ministre Choguel Maïga et le président de la Transition, le colonel Assimi Goïta.
Que ce soit du côté de la délégation de l’Union africaine ou des autorités maliennes de transition, on reste sobre sur le contenu des échanges. « Il est simplement venu écouter, comprendre comment relancer le dialogue », explique un conseiller à la primature, après l’entretien entre Choguel Maïga et le président de la Commission de l’Union africaine.
Des rencontres en forme de retrouvailles pour le chef de la diplomatie malienne Abdoulaye Diop, qui était encore, jusqu’en mars dernier, directeur de cabinet de Moussa Faki Mahamat. Poste dont il avait démissionné pour raisons personnelles avant de rejoindre, quelques mois plus tard, le gouvernement de transition.
Selon la présidence malienne, le président de la Commission de l’UA aurait plaidé pour « une approche consensuelle qui puisse préserver les intérêts fondamentaux » du Mali, « conformément aux textes qui régissent » la Cédéao et l’Union africaine.
Depuis que la Cédéao a imposé ses sanctions, il y a plus de deux semaines, en dépit des déclarations d’ouverture au dialogue, c’est toujours le bras de fer entre l’organisation sous-régionale et Bamako.
L’Algérie a proposé sa médiation et suggéré un calendrier court pour l’organisation des élections et le retour à l’ordre constitutionnel : dans seize mois maximum, contre cinq puis quatre années initialement proposées par Bamako. Cette piste algérienne est soutenue par l’UA.
Moussa Faki Mahamat a-t-il su convaincre ses interlocuteurs maliens ? Aucune des deux parties n’a souhaité aborder le sujet. Au terme de sa journée bamakoise, Moussa Faki Mahamat devait prendre la direction de Dakar pour y rencontrer le président sénégalais Macky Sall.
