Kamala Harris et Emmanuel Macron “discuteront de l’importance de la relation transatlantique pour la paix et la sécurité dans le monde et ils insisteront sur l’importance de notre partenariat pour les défis planétaires comme le Covid-19 et la crise climatique, en passant par les questions du Sahel et de l’Indo-Pacifique”, a précisé la Maison Blanche.
L’appel entre les deux dirigeants et la visite de Kamala Harris s’inscrivent dans une phase de réchauffement entre Paris et Washington après la crise provoquée par l’annonce mi-septembre d’une nouvelle alliance entre les États-Unis, l’Australie et le Royaume-uni.
Ce partenariat baptisé “Aukus” a suscité une rare colère de la France car il a torpillé un mégacontrat de sous-marins français passé avec les Australiens.
Un coup de fil entre Joe Biden et Emmanuel Macron, une semaine plus tard, avait permis d’amorcer une détente. Le locataire de la Maison Blanche avait alors publiquement fait amende honorable sur la méthode.
Et les deux chefs d’État avaient lancé un “processus de consultations approfondies” pour rétablir une confiance durement éprouvée entre Paris et Washington.
