Le vendredi de gratitude de ce 17 Décembre 2021 est bien spécial. Je vous présente une équipe magique à l’histoire particulière, défiant toute logique quant à l’euphorie collective qu’elle suscite chez ses fans, non seulement au Rwanda, mais aussi chez les rwandais du monde entier.
Je vous avertis d’avance, je ne suis pas en conflit d’intérêt, car je ne suis pas fan de Rayon Sports, par contre je suis fan de ses ‘’fans’’ après le match quand elle gagne. C’est un délice pour moi de voir la ballade de gens heureux ayant perdu la raison dans la joie et l’allégresse.
De toute l’histoire du Rwanda, je n’ai jamais vu quelque chose qui unit autant les rwandais que l’équipe du Club de foot Rayon Sport. Dans ce Rwanda où il y a toujours des endroits où chacun peut affirmer sa différence envers les autres, l’équipe de Rayon Sport brise toutes les barrières. Les ennemis jurés en politiques ou dans d’autres domaines deviennent amis quand ils se retrouvent devant cette équipe. C’est un Club sportif qui transcende toutes les différences, même les haines les plus viscérales. Tous ses fans agissent de la même façon : qu’ils soient nés dans un coin reculé en Nshili ou du quartier huppé de la ville de Kigali, Rayon Sport leur colle dans la peau. On dirait un trait génétique ‘’Rayon Sport’’ commun qui se retrouverait dans l’ADN des individus.
D’où vient cette équipe et quelle est son histoire?
L’équipe Rayon Sport a été formée en 1964 à Nyanza, dans l’ancienne commune de Nyabisindu. Le football a été lancé dans les années 1930 par le roi Mutara III Rudahigwa en collaboration avec les prêtres. Les équipes étaient formées suivants les chefferies. C’est ainsi qu’il y avait l’Amaregura de Nyanza pour qui a joué notamment le roi Rudahingwa.
Après l’abolition de la monarchie, Kigali est devenue la capitale et on a assisté à une prolifération d’équipes pour chaque région qui suivaient les noms de Communes. L’équipe communale Kiyovu à Kigali, l’équipe communale Nyabisindu à Nyanza, l’équipe communale Mukura (Butare), ainsi que d’autres équipes moins fortes sont nées.
En 1964, l’ancien Vice-Président de la Cour Suprême de la République du Rwanda à Nyanza, Murego Donati, forma la nouvelle équipe de l’administration communale de Nyanza et lui donna le nom d’« Imirasire ». En 1965, le prêtre belge Ernotte Channoine du Collège Christ-Roi de Nyanza renomma cette équipe en lui donnant le nom désormais légendaire de “RAYON SPORTS“.
Alors que d’autres équipes restaient régionales, seule l’équipe de Rayon Sports défia toute logique en voyant sa popularité s’étendre à l’ensemble des régions du pays dont elle traversa même les frontières. Rayon Sports obtint son statut légal le 25 mai 1968 devenant, par conséquent, la première équipe de la République du Rwanda à se voir ainsi reconnue par un notaire. Avec l’emprisonnement de Murego, l’équipe a perdu beaucoup d’appui et a pu survivre grâce aux commerçants de Nyanza et ceux de Kigali qui étaient originaires de Nyanza.
Le Club Rayon Sports a inscrit son nom dans l’histoire du Rwanda pour la première fois en 1975, l’année où il a remporté son premier championnat endossé par la FIFA et la CAF. C’était la première fois que la FERWAFA était acceptée par la FIFA. Si fière de son équipe, Nyanza fit exploser son allégresse comme le fit également le reste du pays. Le Club Rayon Sports est devenu depuis lors une légende dans l’histoire du football au Rwanda. Il a multiplié les trophées surtout lors de la Coupe du 5 juillet. En 1981, Rayon Sports a également remporté le championnat sans perdre un seul match. Ce haut fait d’armes lui permit en 1982 de sortir pour la première fois du pays pour participer au championnat de la CAF. Après avoir remporté le championnat national de 1981, le Club Rayon Sports déménagea à Kigali en raison d’une crise financière, les commerçants nés à Nyanza voulant que l’équipe se rapproche d’eux. À Kigali toutefois, Rayon Sports s’est butté à la compétition de grandes équipes comme Kiyovu Sport qui lui a donné le nom de « Gasenyi », du nom des déchets produit de la torréfaction du café (Gasenyi), et parce qu’il était sponsorisé par RWANDEX.
Cette époque est aussi marquée par sa compétition féroce avec le Panthère Noire, l’équipe attitrée des forces armées de l’époque, la FAR. En 1989, le Club Rayon sport entra dans l’histoire du Rwanda pour la deuxième fois, en devenant la première équipe à remporter un trophée à l’étranger, le BRARUDI, à l’occasion du 25e anniversaire du Vital’O. Le tournoi comprenait des équipes telles que le Vital ‘O et l’Inter Stars du Burundi ainsi que le Rayon Sports et le Kiyovu Sports du Rwanda.
L’équipe a connu la gloire grâce à son entraineur Congolais Raul Shungu Jean-Pierre qui venait de l’Espoir de Cyangugu. Il bâtit une formation gagnante en achetant des joueurs solides d’autres équipe comme Célestin Gasangwa, alias Tigana. Rayon Sports a continué à remporter le titre national, ce qui lui permettait de représenter le Rwanda à l’extérieur du pays. En 1994, il se rendit en huitième de finale de la Coupe de CAF, Vainqueurs des Coupes, devenue plus tard la Coupe de la Confédération de la CAF. Lors de ce match du 6 mars 1994, le Club Rayon Sports bâtit le Al Hilal du Soudan, 4 buts contre 1. Fait remarquable : il s’agit du match qui a été regardé par le plus grand nombre d’amateurs de foot dans l’histoire du Rwanda. Le Stade Amahoro rempli à craquer, le Rayon Sports offrit un match spectaculaire à ses 35 000 fans.
Le génocide contre les Tutsis de 1994 a eu beaucoup d’impact sur le Club Rayon Sports comme pour d’autres équipes. Au lendemain du génocide, Rayon Sports s’est relevé de ses cendres et sa popularité n’a pas fléchi d’un iota malgré qu’elle ait perdu tant de fans pendant le génocide. Elle en a gagné d’autres et sa popularité s’est même accrue au Rwanda comme à l’étranger.
En décembre 1997, le Rayon Sports remporta la Coupe CECAFA en battant le Zanzibar Murandenge 2-1. Son histoire a continué de croître quand le grand club rwandais est devenu la première équipe d’Afrique de l’Est à atteindre la Coupe d’Afrique des nations en 2018 puis à remporter la Ligue des champions et la Coupe de la paix. De nos jours, le Rayon Sports est une équipe aimée et admirée de différentes personnes au Rwanda comme à l’étranger.
Comme dans le temps, l’équipe de l’Armée, APR maintenant oppose toujours une compétition farouche au Rayon Sports. Les match APR-Rayon Sports sont des matchs qui donnent le plus de sensations aux fans des deux équipes. Quand le Rayon Sports gagne, c’est la folie totale. Les réactions de ses fans sont en soi un autre match qui commence pour nous. C’est un délice de voir tous ces êtres humains se fondre dans l’allégresse, sous l’ivresse d’une joie si intense qu’elle leur fait perdre tous leurs moyens.
Parmi les quelques joueurs clés qui ne seront jamais oubliés dans le cœur des fans du Rayon Sports, on compte les noms célèbres suivant : Fatikaramu, Tigana, Sembagare, Lisala Tanganyika, Djuma Pala, Ndiki, Pokou, Semukanga, Rutabinhwa, Murangwa, Kanyandekwe, Murenzi Kassim, Kayiranga, Mbusaa kombi, Habimana Chrysostome, Gatete…et bien d’autres.
Le palmarès du célèbre club de foot comprend neuf championnats remportés pour les années suivantes: 1975, 1981, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2004, 2012/2013, 2016/2017, 2018/2019. Il a également gagné neuf titres nationaux, soit en1976, 1979, 1982, 1989, 1993, 1995, 1998, 2005, 2016
C’est avec un grand plaisir que je vous demande de rendre hommage à cette équipe, la seule à faire vibrer les rwandais du monde entier. Qu’on trouve cela fabuleux ou bizarre n’y change rien : peu d’autres événements suscitent une euphorie collective que le match de Rayon Sport. Cette équipe rend démentiellement heureux les gens. Et pour preuve : le légendaire Rwarutabura, un fan fini de cette équipe. Niyubahwe!
Rayon Sports FC est une équipe qui doit être écrit au patrimoine national. Sans l’équipe de Rayon Sports, le Rwanda n’existerai pas.
