Pour le dernier vendredi de gratitude de l’année, nous avons traité de l’Équipe Rayon Sport pour sa capacité à être la seule équipe à rassembler les rwandais du monde entier malgré les différences qui les séparent. Cela s’est même vu dans les commentaires reçus suite à cet hommage: main dans la main, tous les rwandais discutant calmement des exploits de leur équipe préférée. Rayon Sports, yubahwe!
Pour le premier Vendredi de gratitude de l’année, commençons-le aussi avec un groupe de personnes dévouées qui ont changé la vie de la plupart des gens: les institutions religieuses qui se sont occupées de notre éducation intellectuelle et sociale.
Pourquoi ces institutions méritent notre reconnaissance?
Pour ceux qui ont vécu à l’internat, rappelez-vous, on y entrait au début de notre adolescence et la quittait une fois arrivé à l’âge d’adulte. Ce qui veut dire qu’à l’un des moments le plus rebelle de notre vie, nous étions confiés à des gens qui n’étaient même pas nos parents pour s’occuper de notre éducation.
À chaque année, nos parents s’occupaient de nous pour trois mois seulement, et ce pour une période s’étirant sur six ans. À vous tous qui éprouvez de la reconnaissance pour ces inconnus qui ont joué un rôle essentiel dans notre éducation, joignez-vous à moi pour leur rendre hommage.
Je rends hommage à toutes ces Sœurs, Frères, Prêtres qui se sont occupées de jeunes en pleine adolescence. À vraiment y penser, cette sévérité dont ils faisaient preuve pour nous élever et qui nous emmerdait autant, nous poussant dans un état de rébellion propre à l’adolescence, ce sont eux qui devaient l’affronter. Et ce sont nos parents qui en profitaient puisqu’ils recevaient le meilleur de nous-mêmes pendant trois mois. Car rentrer chez nous pendant les deux semaines des vacances de Noël et de Pâques et les deux mois de grandes vacances, c’était comme aller chez les Grands-parents. Ce n’est qu’après plusieurs années qu’on a finalement pu comprendre comment ces personnes ont façonné les individus que nous sommes aujourd’hui. Les bonnes valeurs reçues chez eux nous ont aidé à affronter les difficultés de la vie et à apprendre à vivre avec les autres.
À ces religieux qui s’occupaient de notre éducation sociale, il faut ajouter les professeurs dont le travail était de nous inculquer des connaissances et susciter notre curiosité. Je ne sais pas pour vous, mais j’ai eu les meilleurs professeurs au monde à l’école secondaire. L’Université nous permet d’apprendre quelque chose que je ne saurais définir, mais je suis sûre d’une chose : le peu que je sais, la curiosité de découvrir le monde, le désir démesuré de vouloir être sur les bancs d’école (j’y suis toujours), la culture générale, le fait d’apprendre à penser au-delà de ce qui semble apparent…. et bien d’autres choses encore qui nourrissent le cerveau de l’homme, je l’ai appris à l’école secondaire.
Rendons hommages aux professeurs de nos écoles respectives. Ainsi, j’ai une grande reconnaissance aux professeurs de mon école secondaire, le Groupe scolaire Sainte famille de Nyamasheke. Presque tous avaient des surnoms et je pense que c’est un dénominateur commun dans toutes les écoles secondaires au Rwanda. Sans oublier la manie particulière à chacun de nous faire tant rire. Peu importe où ils se trouvent aujourd’hui, ici ou au-delà, je leur rends tous hommages.
Plus particulièrement, à mon prof de français, Petit Chose (inspiré du roman d’Alphonse Daudet). Pour vous dire vrai, je ne connais pas son vrai nom et ce n’est pas une blague, je ne fais pas semblant. Lui aussi ne connaissait pas nos noms, il nous appelait par le numéro qu’il nous assignait selon l’ordre alphabétique de nos noms de famille. Moi, j’étais « numéro 3 » et j’ai conservé ce rang/vocable durant toute mon école secondaire pour la simple raison que les deux étudiants qui étaient devant moi n’ont jamais été renvoyé et qu’aucun autre élève dont la première lettre du nom ayant pu précéder le mien n’a jamais mis les pieds dans ma classe. J’entends la voix de Petit Chose : Numéro 3 va au tableau, Numéro 3 va chercher les livres (le carton rempli des Maurice Grévisse laissé dans une autre classe), numéro 3 ramenez les livres! J’étais la seule élève à qui il demandait cette tâche dans ma classe. C’était comme un philosophe, il avait des manies bizarres. On récitait le Notre-père chaque matin avant le début du premier cours. Il priait toujours en fixant la croix, les mains jointes comme la Vierge-marie et en terminant toujours avec un ‘’Ainsi soit-il’’. Ses punitions prenaient la forme d’exercices de grammaires des plus compliquées ou pire encore, une dissertation de 10 pages sur un sujet profond du type ‘’Qui suis-je?’’. Une telle sentence m’avait été imposée pour la faute d’avoir lu Anna Karénine durant le cours de Chimie, n’étant pas capable de déposer le livre. On lui a rapporté mon « crime » car il était notre titulaire. Et la punition était cotée, c’était du sérieux. J’éprouve une grande reconnaissance à ce professeur, car c’est lui qui m’a fait aimer la langue de Molière qu’il maniait très bien, tel un véritable descendant de Clovis. Petit Chose, yubahwe!
Un autre prof que je n’oublie pas est le burundais Félix Ntakirutimana, mon prof de Kinyarwanda en 6ième année et de français en 1ére année. À ma connaissance, je ne pense pas qu’il avait de surnom, mais c’était le prof le plus drôle. Il nous faisait rire aux éclats même s’il ne riait jamais. Tandis que Petit chose nous désignait par des numéros, M. Ntakirutimana nous appelait toujours par nos noms de familles, une chose inhabituelle dans une école. Les fameux ‘’amasaku’’ difficiles comme les intégrales en math, c’était lui. C’est de lui que j’ai appris la bataille du Roi Rwabugiri à Butembo. Il aimait le Roi Rwabugiri comme un fou même si je n’ai jamais compris ce que ce sujet d’intérêt historique faisait dans le cours de Kinyarwanda. L’incident le plus drôle que je ne vais jamais oublier impliquant ce prof s’est passé le jour où un hélicoptère a survolé notre école. L’appareil était si bas qu’on pouvait l’apercevoir à travers les fenêtres. Une élève assise au premier rang de la classe a eu peur (je pense) et s’est mise à courir frénétiquement, le prof Félix la regardant comme s’il s’agissait d’un extra-terrestre ayant traversé son champ de vision. L’élève revint à sa place et se met à sautiller avec ses bras tendus en imitant les ailes d’un oiseau. Devant ce geste brusque et inattendu, Félix qui la fixait toujours lâcha un « ÇA Y EST », comme si l’élève était devenue folle! Aussitôt le bruit de l’hélicoptère disparu, l’élève se rassit comme si de rien n’était. Mr. Félix, où que vous vous trouviez, je vous rends hommage, car même au moment où je me remémore cet incident, je ris tellement que j’en ai les larmes aux yeux. Wubahwe!
Je rends aussi hommage à ma professeure de Math et titulaire la plus compréhensible, complice dans notre geste de petite rébellion collective en 4ième année, Kamoso Assumpta. Une première depuis l’existence de cette école religieuse très rigoureuse. Vous vous demandez ce que nous avions fait? Par solidarité à celles qui n’avaient pas compris la matière de la veuille, nous avions refusé de faire un quiz improvisé dans le cours de Chimie organique. Je vous épargne les détails car vous trouverez cela stupide, mais pour nous, c’était tout un exploit.
Évidemment, je rends hommage au belge Marc V., notre professeur de Chimie. On dit que c’est un professeur qui te fait aimer une matière. Grâce à Marc, j’ai développé une relation d’amour avec la chimie, surtout la chimie organique, la seule matière que je parvenais à étudier dans un endroit où il y a un bruit de fond (dans un café, resto, cafétéria..).
Je rends hommage à tout le personnel de cette école, nichée dans un coin perdu paradisiaque au bord du lac Kivu et près du mont Nyamirundi.
Avec sa rigueur disciplinaire (on ne sortait jamais), on la détestait s’y engouffrant en 1er année; au terme de notre 6ième année toutefois, on en était arrivé à l’admirer et on se réjouissait même de l’éducation qu’on y avait reçue.
À tous ces éducateurs qui se sont donnés corps et âme pour former et nourrir notre cerveau et notre esprit, vous êtes au panthéon des héros de notre vie.
