Pour ce vendredi de gratitude, je vous présente une personne historique, le héros légendaire, ‘’Rukara rwa Bishingwe’’. Rukara était le fils de Bishingwe qui a vécu sous le règne du Roi Musinga. Il est né à Gahunga dans la région de Burera, sur la colline appelé communément ‘’Gahunga k’Abarashi’’.
Il vient d’une famille des guerriers qui s’appelle ‘’la famille d’Abarashi’’. Ils sont très nombreux et habitent dans la région de Burera. La famille d’Abarashi vient du clan d’ ‘’Abacyaba b’Abarashi’’ de l’ancêtre Karashi. Ce dernier était un grand guerrier qui maniait l’arc avec perfection, d’où le nom de ‘’Karashi’’. La plupart de cette famille faisait partie de l’armée du Roi, mais le plus connu est bien-sûr Rukara rwa Bishingwe. Sa bravoure, en tant que commandant de l’armée, était admirée par ses troupes qui lui avait donné le nom de “Rukara rw’Igikundiro, urwa Semukanya intahanabatatu ya Rutamu”.
D’après les historiens, Rukara wa Bishingwe aurait été un homme de forte et haute stature qui imposait le respect. En effet, c’était un colosse d’un mètre quatre-vingt-dix centimètres. Rukara rwa Bishingwe n’avait peur de personne et avait l’habitude de défier tout le monde jusqu’au Roi Musinga et sa mère la reine Kanjongera.
Alors que tout le monde avait peur du colon blanc, Rukara rwa Bishingwe éprouvait pour lui un mépris bien senti. Il reprochait aux prêtres blancs d’introduire une nouvelle religion chrétienne dans sa région, alors que les habitants de cette zone de Burera pratiquaient la religion traditionnelle de la toute puissante Nyabingi. Et pire encore, dès leur arrivé dans la région, les blancs se sont emparés des terres d’Abarashi pour construire leurs maisons.
Selon les historiens, l’altercation de Rukara rwa Bishingwe et du Père Rupias qu’on appelait ‘’Rugigana’’ serait venu de Rukara qui avait déraciné les arbres qui délimitaient ces terres confisquées par les blancs. Le prêtre a appelé Rukara rwa Bishingwe plusieurs fois pour venir expliquer son geste et ce dernier après plusieurs refus a finalement répondu à l’appel. Arrivé devant Rupias, ce dernier lui a dit bonjour en disant ‘’Yambu’’. Rukara rwa Bishingwe lui a dit qu’il considérait cette salutation comme une insulte et lui a demandé de choisir un autre mot. Le Père Rupias a pris cela comme de l’insubordination et il a giflé Rukara rwa Bishingwe. Ce dernier a sauté tout de suite sur le prêtre et l’a étranglé jusqu’à en mourir.
Rukara rwa Bishingwe s’est enfui à Ndorwa pour chercher la protection de Ndungutse, le fils du Roi Rwabugiri, qui avait conquis cette région dans sa rébellion contre son frère le Roi Musinga. Finalement on lui a tendu une embuscade, mais Rukara rwa Bishingwe ne s’est jamais rendu. Il a combattu et tué un militaire avant de se faire attraper et ligoter. Rukara rwa Bishingwe fut conduit à Ruhengeri où il fut abattu.
Rendons hommage à notre héros national Rukara rwa Bishingwe qui a été le premier rwandais à combattre le colonialisme devenant par là l’icône de la résistance coloniale.
Son nom est resté dans la mémoire des rwandais, car tout le monde a entendu le nom de Rukara rwa Bishingwe faisant référence au courage et à la bravoure. Il a inspiré plusieurs artistes dont Sebatunzi Joseph avec ‘’inanga ya Rukara rwa Bishingwe’’.
Il est parmi les rares rwandais qu’on nomme toujours avec son nom et celui de son père. On n’entend jamais ‘’Rukara’’ seulement, c’est toujours ‘’Rukara rwa Bishingwe’’ rappelant, ainsi, le prestige et la grandeur de cette grande famille.
