Les forces seront redéployées dans la région du Sahel, où environ 4 000 soldats sont stationnés.
Dans une déclaration publiée jeudi matin, les pays impliqués dans la Taskforce Tabuka dirigée par la France ont accepté de définir des plans sur la manière de rester dans la région, notamment le Niger et les pays du Golfe de Guinée, d’ici juin 2022.
“En étroite coordination avec les États voisins, ils ont également exprimé leur volonté de rester engagés dans la région, conformément à leurs procédures constitutionnelles respectives”, peut-on lire dans le communiqué.
Cette décision aura des répercussions majeures sur la sécurité d’un certain nombre de pays participant à la mission.
Le président de la Côte d’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara, a prévenu que le retrait des forces créait “un vide” qui alourdirait la charge des gouvernements régionaux.
“Nous serons obligés d’augmenter nos forces de défense et de renforcer la protection de nos frontières”, affirme M. Ouattara.
